What is an Eco Village?

Robert Gilman defined an eco village as ' A human scale, full featured settlement in which human activities are harmlessly integrated into the natural world in a way that is supportive to healthy human development and can be successfully continued into the future indefinitely' for perpetual generations, thus sustainable.
  
The goal to be;  a) environmentally sustainable
                             b) socially and culturally sustainable; and
                             c) economically sustainable
  
Each of the many ecovillages strives to find their own expression of how sustainability  can be met with community objectives; education, income generation and event management. Each meant to enhance the community.

What is GEN?

The Global Ecovillage Network.
  
GEN's website p(https://ecovillage.org/)rovides their own definition and provides a long list of  ecovillages from around the world each seeking to bring human settlement and a healthy environment into being mutually supportive. This project has been going since 1970s.

The UN has acknowledged and supports the GEN project.
  
The UN has its own definitions of sustainability which is striving to bring into reality through its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

What is Hunter Healing Gardens?

HHG is an ecovillage acknowledge by GEN which is acknowledged by the UN.
  
Member ship of the village is virtual association meaning no cost of up rooting oneself and buying into a a new community. The advantages of being part of a like minded community gained by simply being a member. The challenge to address the suffering of the environment and the sense of disconnection that people are feeling.
    
HHG seeks to provide legal  and financial models that explores options available that have proven successful for both housing and stewardship of the land and the planet. Each is encouraged to follow their own vision and heart.
  
HHG also allows for  "Friends of the Ecovillage" by invitation.
   
HHG providing the community; education, promotion, income generation and event management sharing ideas and practices of sustainable human design and development. Rehabilitation and management of conservation zones and protection of native animals and plant life. 
   
Addressing firefighting - referencing Bushfire Management Plan.
   
Addressing but not limited to rehabilitation and management of conservation zones and protection of native animals and plant life.  Landscaping and the village garden. Use of wildlife friendly pest control with no impact on neighbours.
   
Providing advocacy communication and liaison with Local, State and Federal Authorities.
   
Sustainability enhancement  of private property provides value added commodity.
   
HHG  encourage home owners to provide selling agents with an update of sustainability features of their home with a disclosure statement to outline renewable energy and rainwater capacity of the house providing a increase of the properties market value.
   
The income provided by excess renewable energy sold onto the electricity providers which will pay for the annual maintenance and depreciation of the energy producing system.
  
Properties providing their own water have no water supply cost.

Right of Private Property:

All people need comfortable housing with access to water and food. 
  
Housing is a a basic right as upheld by the UN.
  
The UN supports the right to private property under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (New York, 16 December 1966) , entered into force for Australian on 28th January 1993 :
  
PART 1 Article 1
1. All people have right to self determination...
  
2. All peoples may, for their own ends freely dispose of their natural wealth and resources, without prejudice of mutual benefit and international law. In no case may a people be deprived of a means of subsistence. 
  
3. The States parties to the present Covenant ....shall promote the realisation of the right of self determination.
  
Article 18
1. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his/her choice, and freedom either individually or in community with others and in public or private to manifest his/ her religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
The UN holds that housing is a basic right. Yet while it remains a commodity the price of housing is becoming ever out of reach of ordinary people. This is also supported by the nation's document of governance.

Eco-village membership is for people of all walks of life coming together on a guided journey of sustainability. There are no requirements, none of the usual costs and need of uprooting your life and starting again in order to move towards sustainability,  as a way of life that an Eco Village offers. Being part of the HHG virtual village gives that the sense of safety, protection and support of being part of a community of like minded people. Co Housing

Quoting Architect Laura Finch  " Co-housing is very different from a commune ... it really values independence ... co-operation and community".  The people who live there take responsibility for their community and are their own landlords.
  
This model has  been used successfully since the 1970s when it was pioneered in Denmark. Today around 30% of the Danish population live in co-housing. This model uses a primary building with shared facilities plus secondary smaller dwelling around it without or without  ensuite and basic cooking facilities. 
    
Council regulations currently allow the total floor area up to 387 sq m2.

Is simply the purchase of a many bedroomed house by a group. Usually adults with a similar profile in life. Members simply seeking to invest in property gaining a cheaper foot hold into the housing market. HHG can provide agreement options.

Is program which allows people to safely share their home with others decreasing their financial burden and reducing the effort of maintenance.

A Forever Home

As  moving home will cost at least $40,000 to make the transfer with  continuity of social contacts and life references lost. A forever home provides a Universal Design: 
   
Much architectural thought and design has gone into creating homes that can be forever homes. Creating a highly liveable and adaptable house so that it is functional for people at all ages and abilities. Recognising most people can expect temporary or permanent limitations in their physical abilities at some point in their life due to injury illness or age.
  
A Universal Designed house explores options to meet the changing needs of most home occupants though-out their life without the need for specialisation. Adaptable measures adopted during a build means adopting easily sourced adaptations to a house for accessibility etc should the need arise eg installation of fittings which everyone can use rather than screw taps that are difficult to use with limited hand function.
  
The benefit ;- reducing the need to relocate and thereby ensuring community ties are not broken over the owners life time.

Farmers - Are you worried about the future of your property?

You have cared for your property all your life and perhaps generations before you as well. The option of simple passing it on to the kids may not provide an answer.

Since Ancient times Gardens have been celebrated for their healing powers and in recent times it is known to alleviate stress and anxiety infusing a sense of calm seeing nature as developing us with harmony,  as we nurture we are nurtured.
   
Gardens can be prescriptive or just evolve as a memorial of vision partnered with nature dealing with problems that can be challenging, repellant and hostile.
  
HHG would encourage you to never give up or waste an opportunity to invest in your surroundings. Remembering what ever we put in we get so much more in return giving you tranquility and peace of mind.
    
Building a Garden is a journey that offers resting places along the way. The design may continue to change through the process of building a finished space of life and quiet contemplation with food which feeds the body and soul building a lovely aesthetically pleasing place capitalising on nature's incredible backdrop.
